For your new curtain rods to perfectly fit your window please follow this simple measuring tips and guidelines.
First measure the window width, and add enough on each side so that the drapes will block the light around the sides of the window, and allow the drape to slide sufficiently off of the window when they are opened. This measurement is for the curtain rod length.
For a larger window it is require more curtain rod width, this is because usually we'll put more curtain or drapery fabric on a larger window, and that requires more width, and therefore more curtain rod width.

Try putting the curtain rods high so you can hang the drapery high enough and help to covers the top of the window at least a few inches. If you decide to use tab tops, tie tops or clip rings which will drop your curtain down a bit below the curtain rod, try move thecurtain rodsup a bit to compensate. You might want to hang the curtain a little higher or even from ceiling to floor, if you want to have palatial look, taller or more vertical.
If you are using a ready made curtain to attach to your curtain rods, do check what size is available and decides on the curtain rods height accordingly. Most curtains are available in 84” length and around 80” high to cover the most typical doors and windows. Usually did not use 84” drapery on a 48” high window. This will give uniform look if you have a patio doors in the same room that using 84” panels.
You can hang yourcurtain rodsa bit higher so the curtain will stay off from the floor to avoid dust, water or Early California ranch style grunge, but it is not uncommon for curtain to puddle on the floor for a lavish look.
